Units of Measurement play a critical role in maintaining accurate inventory records in TallyPrime. Sometimes, you may need to edit or alter a stock unit after it’s created—either to correct mistakes, rename it, or update its details
From the Gateway of Tally, press:A
(for Alter)
Click on the Stock Unit
Select the Stock Unit
- A list of all existing units will be shown.
- Use the arrow keys or type the name of the unit you want to alter.
- Press Enter to open the Unit for editing.
Make the Required Changes
Once you enter the unit screen, you can modify:
- Symbol – Abbreviation (e.g., “Nos”, “PCS”, “Kg”)
- Formal Name – Full form of the unit (e.g., “Pieces”, “Kilograms”)
- Number of decimal places – For precise measurement tracking
- Base or Additional Units – If it’s a compound unit
Save the Changes
Press Ctrl + A to save changes. Alternatively, navigate to Yes when prompted to accept the changes.
Example
Suppose you created a unit called “PCS”, but you later prefer “Nos” for better standardization across reports. You can simply alter the Symbol from PCS to Nos using the above method. All stock items using this unit will now reflect the new symbol.
