How to Alter Godown / Locations in TallyPrime

In TallyPrime, Godowns (or Locations) help businesses manage inventory across multiple warehouses, stores, or storage areas. If you’ve made a mistake during setup or need to update the details of a godown, TallyPrime allows you to alter (edit) godowns easily.

From the Gateway of Tally, press: A (for Alter)

Click the Godown to Alter

Choose the Godown to Alter

• A list of all created godowns will appear.
• Select the godown you wish to edit.
• Press Enter to open the edit screen.

Make Your Changes

You can now update:

• Name of the godown (e.g., change “Main Store” to “Main Warehouse”)
• Under (Parent godown)
• Description, if applicable
• Add more details based on your company’s settings

Save the Changes

• After making edits, press Ctrl + A to save. You’ll return to the list of godowns.

 

You created a godown named “Online Store” under “Primary”, but later decided to group it under “E-Commerce Warehouses”. You can easily alter the godown and change the Under field to reflect the new structure—without losing any inventory data.
